A great new addition for the cello world Fri, Oct 18, 2013

As i have mentioned previously, I was sent some music and books to review over the summer.
The last of my reviews is of a super set of pieces for the grade 6 to 8 standard cellist entitled ‘One Chair in a Room’ by Mark Sinclair.
It was sent to me by my good friend Catherine Black, who runs the most amazing cello courses a few miles away in Lewes. Do visit her website: http://www.cellocourses.com and www.vaultedskymusic.com

Here is my review;

This is a charming and diverse collection of four original pieces by Mark
Sinclair. Skilfully written to show off the best assets of the cello and piano
working together, these stylistically well contrasted works are rich in melodic
and harmonic invention and provide appropriate rhythmical and technical
challenges for both instruments. One feels that there is a little nod to world
music in these delightful pieces and perhaps even Piazolla.
The collection is beautifully presented; the typeset and fonts employed make
the music very easy to read and the binding allows the music to be laid flat. A
CD of piano accompaniments is also provided for the cellist who is occupying
the one chair in a room!
Suitable for cellists of grade 6 to 8 standard, these pieces are a welcome
addition to contemporary repertoire.
