Violin babies and Emma

Violinbabies excites and inspires me, especially as it’s so accessible, fun and child-led. It allows even the youngest of pupils to develop their sight-reading, playing and general musicianship in a fun but productive way.

My thoughts on teaching music

I firmly believe that every child has the ability to be musical and that all learning should be fun, engaging and rewarding.  Every child is different and so every lesson is directed to that child’s particular strengths and weaknesses.  Fun is a huge part of all my teaching – without that, children won’t engage or want to learn & improve.

Musical experience

Emma began learning the violin & piano at age 4 and went on to study at Chethams School of Music (Manchester) and the Royal College of Music (London).

In addition to private teaching, Emma’s career has included devising, setting up & running the London Symphony Orchestra’s Education programme for many years as well as managing a number of smaller chamber orchestras.

Emma has also taught both privately for many years and, more recently, in primary schools as part of Surrey Arts programme of instrumental teaching.  She has also a great deal of experience as a primary school Teaching and Learning Support Assistant, specialising in working with Autistic children.
