Cellobabies and Hannah

Our lives are full of music and I passionately believe that we should make music really accessible right from the very start.  Stringbabies is a wonderful starting point for any young child and takes the stuffiness out of learning an instrument.  Very quickly a child can start to understand musical notation and develop a good technique using the Stringbabies method whilst having lots of fun!

Musical experience

My passion for music started at playgroup, which was run by two professional musicians.  From an early age I loved singing and later started playing the piano.  I took up the cello at the age of 12 and was completely inspired by the cellist Jacqueline Du Pre. I quickly excelled and by the age of 18 was leading the Somerset Youth Orchestra and secured a place at Kingston University to study music.

My career has always been influenced by music and has included working for the music publisher Faber Music and later becoming Education Manager for the then London based Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonia 21.  Here, I ran a unique programme of workshops collaborating with professional musicians, composers and dancers including CandoCo.  Music projects took place not only in schools all over the South East, but also at The Royal College of Music, and with a range of community groups including people with dementia.

During the last few years I have started running a number of choirs in primary schools and leading music workshops for both Keystage 1 and 2 groups.  I also help run an orchestra for young musicians based in Haywards Heath and have experience working with musicians of all ages and abilities.  My youngest pupil is currently 5 years old and the oldest has been 75 years old!

I currently play with the Sussex Symphony Orchestra and regularly give solo recitals in my local Church in Cuckfield.
