Cellobabies and Jessica

Since meeting Kay in July 2015 I have been eager to trial the Cellobabies method with my younger cellists aged 3 to 8. What pleases me the most is how the method can be used to develop sight-reading and aural, as well as note-reading skills. Using characters and magnetic symbols, my cellists will be composing their own music from the very beginning, whatever their age or experience.

My thoughts on teaching music

My aim is to develop students’ creativity, confidence and love of learning in a relaxed and friendly manner. Although I use grade exams, I prefer to value students’ all-round ability, including aural and sight-reading skills, which will prepare them for future ensemble music-making.

Musical experience

I studied cello with Susanna Riddell (London Philharmonic Orchestra), then Ioan Davies (currently Yehudi Menuhin School) as a music student at Bristol University. With over 15 years’ experience both privately and in schools, I provide tuition to children and adults from beginner to Grade 8 and music theory to Grade 5. All piano accompanying provided.

Formerly a cellist in the Cambridge Philharmonic Orchestra and a current member of the European String Teachers Association, I teach privately from my (pet-free, smoke-free) home located between Cambridge and Huntingdon.
