It has been a hectic start to the year - a bumper one for festivals to adjudicate, taking me from the Isle of Wight to the Isle of Man, Inverness to Haverfordwest and quite a few in between!
However, this week something special happened…

The final syllabus for the new Stringbabies award landed on my doormat and in the email inbox this week!
I have been incredibly privileged to have worked in partnership with Victoria College Exams to develop this exciting new series of awards for beginner string players and it has been so exciting to be given a blank sheet of paper to design your own assessment!
The result is the VCM Stringbabies Award at 3 progressive levels, which provide holistic targets for the Stringbabies student, giving them the opportunity to show off their developing technical and musical skills and in particular, their abilities as composers.
Its this last aspect which I think helps makes Stringbabies and particularly this award rather special.
Please do download the syllabus and have a good look. You might want to start preparing students towards being amongst the first participants when applications open in the autumn.
in the meantime, I have some sight reading samples to write and a couple of new repertoire pieces to publish in readiness!
