Violinbabies and Catherine

Violinbabies has allowed my students to experience the wonder and joy of music-making from a very young age and has helped them develop their technique, reading skills and musicianship in a fun and engaging way.

I think that the Stringbabies method is very well thought out. It creates space for students to grow as musicians from the beginning and methodically builds on the material previously learnt whilst allowing students technique to progress at their individual pace.

My thoughts on teaching music

I believe that each student is unique and can enjoy and benefit from musical learning. Consequently, every lesson is tailored to the individual, taking into consideration their learning style and aiming to give a rounded musical experience while also being great fun!

Musical experience

Catherine began studying the violin at the age of 5,achieved Grade 8 with distinction in 2005 and was awarded her ABRSM Performance Diploma in 2007. She graduated with first class honours from the Royal WelshCollege of Music and Drama in 2011 and returned to study for a Masters of Music Performance (distinction).

She has studied with Roger Huckle (leader of the Bristol Ensemble), Peter Hanson (leader of the Eroica Quartet) and is currently studies with Lesley Hatfield, leader of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Catherine is a freelance extra player with Welsh National Opera, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the British Sinfonietta. Alongside these orchestras, Catherine has broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and appeared on BBC3 as well as Welsh television channel S4C.
